MUNG BEANS DESSERT (TAU SUAN)

Serves 6 to 8

Ingredients:

  • Split Mung Beans, 350 grams (washed and soaked in water for 10 minutes and drained well)
  • Sugar, 8 tablespoons
  • Water, 2.1 litres
  • Pandan Leaves, 6 knots (washed and rinsed) 
  • Water Chestnut Flour solution, 125 grams (mixed well with 125ml of water)
  • Fried Dough Sticks (油条), to preference

 

Instructions:

  1. In a Thermos® Shuttle Chef® inner pot or frying pan, add drained split mung beans, 3 tablespoons of Sugar and stir fry under low heat till the beans turn slightly brown. Remove browned beans and set aside. 
  2. In a 4.5L Thermos® Shuttle Chef® inner pot, add 2.1 litres of water and pandan leaves. Bring it to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. 
  3. When boiling, add browned spilt mung beans, 5 tablespoons of sugar and stir well. 
  4. Add water chestnut flour solution slowly while stirring the contents well till it reaches a thick consistency. Close inner pot’s lid, transfer it to the Shuttle Chef® outer pot and set it aside for at least 30 minutes. 
  5. Before serving, remove pandan leaves knots and enjoy your home-cooked dessert with the fried dough sticks!

 

Notes:

  • This recipe is based on using a 4.5L Thermos® Shuttle Chef® TCRA-4500. Ingredients can be adjusted for different Shuttle Chef® inner pot sizes and capacities.
